A Pakistani

We had a community iftiyaar in a student union of a nearby college. I was sitting with my group of friends who are all arabs. Then one pakistani guy joined our table. So when we asked him where he is studying he explained that he is going to three different schools to study law. We were quite surprised and asked him to explain.

He went on to explain that he is learning law so that when he later on has his own "chain of businesses" he will need to know law too. He went on and on boasting how america is the only country where he make lots of money in a short time and how he would go about doing that. How he can make 1 million by even having a garage. Then his ideas on generating hyrdrogen based automoblies. How he would go to Pakistan, employ nuclear scientist over there and also get access to nuclear plants over there to do his research.

We were a set of engineering graduate students. But we kept quite and kept shaking our heads and he really did think that we believed in him. He went on to say how he could bring political change in the MSAs. That there should be bowling arenas in the masjid etc. It was so comical, to hear all this.
How foolish can some people be!!! And they think we are dumb!!!

Religious freedom : Hijab

When I see so many muslim women wearing hijab here in Troy, I am filled with respect for them. Here in the US, devout muslims have maintained their identity and culture. The recent opposition to nikhab in britain and banning on hijab in schools in france has initiated an international debate on the hijab. Muslims are fighting court cases for religious freedom in the secular lands.

So are these muslims allowed to wear hijab back in their home countries? Not in all countries!

Turkey: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3225651.stm

Remember the turkish politican who was stripped of her nationality because she wore hijab to the parliament? She was abused and forced to leave the parliament.

Egypt: today most islamic scholars are from cairo. but still,

Today tyrant rulers rule most of the islamic world. Islamists are jailed in egypt, libya, turkey and many arab countries simply because they are religious fundamentalists. Political opponents are jailed in almost every arab country. This reflects the state of the muslims world-wide. Parties like islamic brotherhood are banned in many countries. Free elections in lebanon and palestine, were abused by the western powers who dont want the islamists to come to power.

Muslims thus are feeling the lack of religious and political freedom. They are helpless when they see more than 2 million muslims killed in the last decade. In the last few decades, for good or for bad, muslims all over the world have been radicalized.

Oppressive regimes, social and economic equality promised by islam as opposed to brutal effects of capitalisation, islamic awareness increasing with education and spread and funding of a “simple islam” by saudis in form of madrassas and schools worldwide.

Every muslim is burning from inside. But this has only lead to chaos. It has led to the rise in terrorist movements with no purpose served. Change can come only by toppling the oppressive regimes in each every country and bringing democratic change. Should we let al-qaeda (as in somalia) or the US (as in iraq and afghanistan) do it? None of these countries have come still come of war. Where is the Saladin of our time?
